Important Tips for ESL learning

Before proceeding in our Way of Learning and mastering English Language, we have to take some very important tips into special consideration:

First :

If your mother tongue is not English, forget about it, and start learning English without getting help of your first language. That is, avoid direct translation of English into your first language. 


Second :

Learn vocabulary through using images and illustrations rather than direct translation


Third :

Listen to native speakers of English, and always remember that the more you listen to English, the best you are going to speak it.


Fourth :

Read and read and read and read anything written in English, and focus on reading topics you are really interested in. And always remember that the more you read, the best you are going to write.


Fifth : 

Think of all skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) as integrated. That is, when you listen to people speaking English, try to communicate with them; Try to speak and be not afraid of committing mistakes, because if you are shy, you will never learn to speak and communicate English. I am not here discouraging or disappointing you! No never! I am just stressing on the importance of motivating yourself by yourself to learn English. Secondly, read interesting topics and when finish reading such interesting topics, you MUST write (at least one short paragraph) about them. So we link reading with writing, and listening with speaking. Learning English skills as integrated is thus more effective than learning individual skills.

As an English teacher whose first language is not English, I think the effective way/s of learning English is to learn all language skills as integrated, and not as individualized.
